Does My Child Need A Filling?

Recognizing The Common Signs

If your child has been complaining of a sore or tender tooth, they may have a cavity. Cavities usually cause pain in the tooth, tenderness when chewing, and sensitivity to both hot and cold foods. Your child’s tooth may also feel sore and tender
when they eat sweets.

However, at-home diagnosis is not enough. We recommend coming into SmileKids! Pediatric Dentistry to let our professional team evaluate the situation. At your appointment, Dr. Nadgie can assess your child’s oral health, identify the cavity,
and provide you with information about your options for their treatment.

Understand The Benefits

Composite Dental Fillings

We use composite, tooth-colored dental fillings at our office. They are a modern alternative to traditional metal fillings, and possess a number of unique benefits.

Composite fillings look and feel more like a natural part of your child’s tooth, so their smile will remain bright and beautiful. On the other hand, metal fillings, with their silvery-gray color, can discolor your child’s tooth.

Composite dental fillings require Dr. Nadgie to remove less of your child’s natural enamel when preparing their tooth, which helps keep their smile strong. The composite material also bonds tightly to the natural enamel, which ensures a long
lifespan and resistance to the pressures of chewing and biting.

For all of these reasons and quite a few more, we prefer to treat all of our patients with composite dental fillings. Schedule a consultation now by calling us at 276-663-3126 if you’d like to learn more.

What To Expect

The Filling Process

A filling usually takes less than an hour. Dr. Nadgie will begin by cleaning and numbing your child’s mouth. Sedation can be administered at this point if desired. Then, your child’s tooth will be prepared by Dr. Nadgie. She will gently remove
any decayed or damaged enamel with specialized dental tools.

Next, the tooth will be cleaned and disinfected. Then, the composite resin will be applied and hardened layer-by-layer to restore the shape and function of your child’s tooth. Once this is done, Dr. Nadgie will trim the filling, and make a
few minor adjustments to ensure your child’s bite is perfect. Finally, the filling will be buffed and polished, completing the procedure.

We treat kids of all ages, from toddlers to teens!
