The Earlier The Better
When Should My Child See The Dentist For The First Time?
The AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) recommends that children should see the dentist when their first tooth emerges or by the time they turn one year old, whichever comes first. It’s never too early to begin a preventive
dental routine for your children.
If you have an older child who hasn’t been to the dentist yet, now is still the best time to start. Schedule an appointment now to make sure your child’s mouth is healthy and their teeth are strong.
Developing Trust
Establishing A Dental Home
A “dental home” is the dental office, like SmileKids! Pediatric Dentistry, where your children receive all of their routine dental treatments.
By establishing a dental home, your children will get to know and trust their dentist. As a result, your kids will feel more comfortable, and they will be able to develop a real relationship with Dr. Nadgie and our team. This will
ensure they don’t develop dental anxiety, and will have a healthy relationship with dentistry as they grow older.
By seeing your child regularly, we’ll also be able to track their dental health and oral development more effectively, and catch signs of potential oral health issues before they become serious.
Creating Consistency
Teaching Good Dental Health Habits
The best way to teach good dental habits to little ones is to lead by example. Brush your own teeth properly, and supervise your children while they’re young and still learning how to brush their teeth and care for their mouth. Regular
visits to SmileKids! Pediatric Dentistry will also help your kids learn more about the importance of proper oral care.
Digital Imaging
Does My Child Need X-rays?
At our office, we follow the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry guidelines for prescribing dental x-rays. Dr. Nadgie will evaluate the need for dental x-rays after a thorough clinical evaluation that will take into consideration
the patient’s medical history and the purpose of the visit. These digital images allow the doctor to make accurate diagnosis of cavities and pathologies in the same manner laboratory tests allow a pediatrician diagnose and treat
illnesses. Our state-of-the-art digital x-ray machines produce between 80% to 90% less radiation than traditional x-ray films.
When appropriate, we can use advanced techniques and tools like DEXIS CariVu to detect cavities without x-rays. However, x-rays may still sometimes be recommended by Dr. Nadgie. There are some oral health conditions that simply
cannot be identified any other way, and x-rays are also the best way to ensure that your child’s baby teeth and adult teeth are developing and erupting properly.
We’ll always get your approval before we take x-rays, and take all measures to ensure your child’s safety throughout the entire process.
